Hockey writing and blogging is not just about game play and numbers [OC]

Going over content from the hockey blogosphere daily, I get disappointed with what I cross...or more like what I fail to cross.
Certain sites - some on major networks - won't write spit unless it's something to go over thoroughly with numbers. They like to go over direct play. They don't opinionate as-so-much say what the numbers show or what directly happened in a game. By way of it, they're missing out on actually doing what they're supposed to be doing: blogging.
Blogging about hockey or any subject for that matter isn't supposed to be about one direct topic all the time. In the instance of sports, it's not supposed to be writing just about game-play. It's not just supposed to be about advanced-stats talk. It's not supposed to be syndicated, follow-network-trend posting that you see WAY too often now on SB Nation linked sites (link-dumps, player grades/reviews postseason, the forthcoming "Top 25 Under 25"). There's stuff to talk about with teams off-ice, there's stuff to look at with the NHL in general. They turn a blind eye or just miss out on that because they're fixated on gameplay only talk?
Russian Machine Never Breaks has been fantastic in posting about what's going on with the Capitals post-Championship. That's not just analyzing the game or the players, it's talking about the events going on tied to the franchise and the team. Too many sites get lost at being fans-first and not posting stuff like this (not championship rhetoric but off-ice antics). I realize many markets are weaker and therefore tougher to hear all of the stuff that's going on with players and a franchise, but too often post worthy content is just linked to, ho-hum, without any additional thoughts or reactions.
Case in point -- there's been PR emails around abut odds for the 2019 Stanley Cup. This morning Raw Charge on SB Nation decided to share the info with users...on the morning link-dump post. It's a subject that could get more talk, it's a subject that could be opinionated over (expectations for the season should not come by way of gambling odds but game-play -- flesh that out). Link dump posting is phoning-it-in.
[As an original blogger, link-dumps used to be bloggers linking to bloggers to highlight writing, not to phone in reports]
The point is this -- hockey and sports in general -- is more than gameplay directly. There's history that can be talked about, there's league rhetoric to talk about, there are many aspects for each team to share an opinion on. Just phoning it in with network-trends is just catering to one segment of hockey fans while a greater array of readers will get drawn in by writing something that's more original than player and game-play review.
